Ditches should never be burned or sprayed with defoliants. Vegetation in ditches provides stability to the banks and natural filtration of stormwater. Please note: the city does not clean leaves from ditches in residential areas.

Grass And Weeds -Too High
Select this online service request option to report grass and/or weeds, on private property, where an average height of such grass or similar vegetation exceeds 10 inches over 50% of the property. State law on grass maintenance enforcement does not apply to A-1 zoned properties and land being used for active farming, regardless if there is a residential structure.

Grass Mowing - City Row - Public Roads Only
Select to request mowing of the grass and weeds within the City right-of-way, which includes medians or shoulders. The City does not mow medians located within sub-divisions. It is the neighborhood civic league, Homeowner Association or private resident's responsibility to maintain those areas. The city's mowing contract covers only medians located on public roadways and city right-of-ways. Grass is mowed on a 29 day cycle (weather permitting). Ditch front and back slopes are mowed only two times per year.

Missed Trash - Container

The first priority of sidewalk maintenance is to remove tripping hazards that may occur. Select to report street light outages. If possible, please have the power pole identification tag information available when reporting the problem. The tag will list a combination of letters and numbers. This information helps process your request. The City notifies Dominion Energy of outages called in by citizens as a courtesy. Outages are typically resolved within 10-15 work days. If the problem is more than a burnt-out bulb, repairs may take longer.

Emergency Routes These roads connect traffic flow to hospitals, interstates, and the neighboring cities, as well as providing essential north/south and east/west corridors across the City.
Primary Routes These are high-volume roads serving as significant travel and collection systems for Emergency Routes.
Secondary Routes These are moderate-to-low traffic corridors that channel traffic from neighborhoods to primary roads or provide useful connections for travel and services.
Please note: Due to the demand of limited resources, the snow response plan does not include plowing or spreading on neighborhood streets.

Traffic Signal Installation (New)
Select to request the installation of a NEW traffic signal. Please do not use this request to report a signal maintenance issue on an existing traffic light. Please do use this request to ask for a new street light installation. Instead, please call the Customer Contact Center at 757-382-2489 during regular business hours.
Traffic Signal Maintenance
Select to report malfunctioning traffic lights including issues such as burnt out bulbs, flashing lights or cycle timing of the traffic light.
Trash Can-Repair
Select to request the repair of a damaged city-issued trash container. The City will replace damaged or missing wheels, lids, hinge pins, etc. at no charge to the resident provided damage is due to normal wear and tear. Please do not use this service request type to request the replacement of a city-issued container due to large cracks or holes in the can. Select Trash Can Replacement to request a replacement can.
Trash Can-Replacement
Select to request the replacement of a city-issued can for an existing home. The damaged container should be left curbside on the next scheduled collection day and the following business day. If your collection day is Friday please leave can curbside Friday and following Tuesday for replacement. For cans damaged by fire/vandalism, the citizen must purchase a replacement can for a fee of $68.90 at any Treasurer's Office. To request a City container for a NEWLY constructed home, select "Trash Container - Residential New Construction (Brown Can)". City-issued cans are evaluated and replaced at the field supervisor's discretion based on the degree of damage.
Trash Can-Residential New Construction (Brown Can)
Select to request a city-issued brown trash container for a newly constructed home. The City provides one container at no charge. You may purchase a second container for a one-time fee of $68.90. You must prepay for the container in person at any City Treasurer's Office or mail the payment to the Treasurer's Office at 306 Cedar Rd., Chesapeake, VA, 23322. Specify the payment is for a second brown trash container. The City will collect a maximum of two brown containers per household.
Vehicle - Inoperable In Residential
Select to report a vehicle damaged beyond reasonable repair, missing a license plate or inspection sticker. Vehicle must be on PRIVATE residential property to be reported here. If located on a private property that is not zoned for residential use (business use, industrial use, office/institutional) it must be reported under ZONING GENERAL service request. For concerns over inoperable/abandoned vehicles parked on a public street, please report to Police Department, Non-Emergency at 382-6161. This request intake cannot be used for vehicles parked in the public street.
Water (Drinking) - Quality
Select to request or report information relating to water (drinking) quality. However, if this is an EMERGENCY situation between the hours of 5:00pm and 8:00am, Monday through Friday, anytime on the weekend, or whenever city offices are closed due to inclement weather, please do not file this report on-line.
